How much does a gas suppression system cost?
Pricing depends on room volume, agent choice and integration with existing detection. A 50 m³ server room typically falls between R180,000 and R450,000 turnkey, certified to SANS 14520. We quote precisely after a free site assessment.
Is a gas suppression system safe for people in the room?
Inergen and Novec 1230 are designed for occupied spaces and remain safe at design concentration. FM-200 allows safe egress within the prescribed window. CO₂ is restricted to unoccupied industrial enclosures only — we never specify it where staff work.
How often must a gas suppression system be serviced?
Annual service plus a five-yearly cylinder hydrostatic test under SANS 14520. C4 schedules the visits, runs door-fan integrity testing, and re-issues a compliance certificate after every annual service.
Will a gas suppression system damage electronics?
No. Clean agents — FM-200, Novec 1230, Inergen — leave zero residue and do not conduct electricity. Servers and switchgear continue running through and after a discharge with no clean-up required.
Can C4 retrofit gas suppression into an existing room?
Yes. We routinely retrofit data centres, switchrooms and archives. The site assessment covers room sealing, abort stations, ventilation interlocks and integration with your existing fire panel. A door-fan integrity test confirms the room can hold the agent.
What happens if the system discharges accidentally?
A double-knock detection sequence and abort station mean accidental discharge is rare. If it does happen, clean agents leave no residue — the room ventilates and operations continue. C4’s 24/7 emergency line covers re-fill and re-certification.
