Every commercial property needs photoluminescent signage above each extinguisher, hose reel and hydrant, along with exit signs at every exit door and directional signs along the escape route. Hazard pictograms are required on the doors of combustible stores, gas rooms, electrical rooms and generator rooms. SANS 1186 sets the design and luminance standards. C4 supplies the full SANS 1186 signage set and installs it on the same visit.
A fire blanket is installed within 1 metre of the heat source, mounted on the exit side of the room so the user can reach it without stepping over the fire. The most common locations are commercial kitchens (within 1 metre of the fryer or gas hob), school and university science labs (within 1 metre of the burner bench) and small workshops. SANS 1632 covers blanket specifications. C4 supplies 1.0 x 1.0m and 1.2 x 1.2m sizes with wall-mount pouches.
Every wall-mounted extinguisher needs a bracket sized to the cylinder. SANS 10105 requires the extinguisher base to sit between 1.0 and 1.5 metres from the floor. Cabinets are required where extinguishers are exposed to weather (outdoor sites), tampering (public buildings, schools, residential blocks) or impact (loading docks, warehouses). Cabinets can be lockable, break-glass or glass-front, and the most common configurations are single, double and triple-cylinder.
Photoluminescent signage is required in any commercial premises with an escape route that may be used during a power failure. That covers virtually every commercial building under SANS 10400-T. Photoluminescent panels glow for several hours after the lights go out, so the escape route stays visible during a power failure or smoke event. SANS 1186 sets the design and luminance standards. C4 supplies SANS 1186-compliant signage as standard.
