Our Services
Comprehensive fire and security solutions tailored to your needs and safety requirements.
C4 Fire & Security offers a full suite of solutions for industrial and commercial clients:
Fire Prevention & Risk Management: We start with fire risk assessments, evacuation planning, and compliance audits to identify hazards. Our experts advise on passive protections (fire-resistant walls and doors, smoke barriers, fire dampers, signage and emergency lighting) and active safety measures. C4 designs building layouts and modifications in line with SANS 10400‑T requirements (e.g. compartmentation and escape routes). Regular fire drills, staff training and housekeeping reviews are also provided to minimize risk.
Fire Detection Systems: We supply and install advanced detection networks to spot fire early and alert occupants. Systems include addressable smoke and heat detectors, flame sensors, and analog sensing combined with high-sensitivity VESDA/Xtralis aspirating units for critical areas. Our control panels (e.g. TeleFire, Technoswitch) are SANS 10139‑compliant and feature graphical annunciators and network connectivity. Early-warning detection is crucial – as one safety guide notes, “fire alarm systems [provide] early warning [which] can make all the difference between fire containment and catastrophe”. All detectors and alarms are interconnected (wired/wireless) so that any trigger sets off sirens, strobes and automated notifications, and can link to building management systems for coordinated response.

Fire Suppression Systems: We design suppression solutions to match each hazard and environment. Our offerings include:
Sprinkler Systems (Water-based): Wet-pipe, dry-pipe and pre-action sprinkler networks engineered per SANS 10287. We handle pump sizing, pipework and valves, and ensure reliable water supply and pressure.
Gas Suppression: FM-200/Novec 1230 and inert-gas (e.g. N₂/Ar/CO₂) systems for spaces where water is unsuitable (data centers, telecoms, archives). These systems discharge a clean agent to quickly flood a room – we include voice/visual alarm panels and emergency shutdown interlocks as required.
Foam Systems: For industrial fuel and chemical storage, we install foam-deluge or foam-on-spray systems. These mix foam concentrate with water to blanket hydrocarbon fires. Foam systems are ideal in factories, tank farms and aircraft hangars (flammable-liquid hazards).
Kitchen Suppression: Wet-chemical suppression units under commercial extractor hoods (Class F agents) for kitchens. Activated by fusible links or manual pull switches, these systems rapidly cool and smother cooking-oil fires.
Water Mist & Hybrid: High-pressure water mist or hybrid systems for specialized needs, minimizing water damage. These create fine droplets that absorb heat and displace oxygen, effective in heritage sites or areas with sensitive equipment.
Portable Extinguishers: We also supply SABS‑approved extinguishers (CO₂, foam, dry powder, AVD for lithium-ion batteries, etc.) and provide refill/refurbishment and hydrostatic testing.
Each suppression installation includes full system commissioning, room integrity (leak) testing (for gas systems), and staff briefing. We ensure all systems comply with SANS 1475 and manufacturer standards. (For example, inert gas systems must achieve the required design concentration within 10 seconds as per code.)
Security & Integration: Beyond fire safety, we integrate surveillance and access control for a unified security strategy. We install enterprise CCTV solutions (network/IP cameras with recording and analytics), biometric or card-based access control, and intrusion detection. Crucially, these are tied into the fire-alarm/BMS network: e.g. cameras can auto-focus on alarm zones, and access systems can unlock exit routes during evacuations. As noted by integrated-security experts, top providers now deliver “access control, CCTV, BMS, and fire detection… on a single platform”. C4 partners with leading brands (Hikvision, Axis, Bosch, etc.) to ensure our security systems meet South African SANS and NFPA standards. Our managed service options include remote monitoring, regular software/firmware updates, and system audits.
Maintenance & Training: Our service team performs scheduled inspections and maintenance on all fire and security equipment, as required by law. This includes annual fire system commissioning tests, six-monthly smoke-room audits, and monthly fire-extinguisher checks. We issue compliance reports for each visit and can assist clients in obtaining or renewing their Fire Safety Compliance Certificates. Additionally, we offer training sessions in fire extinguisher use, evacuation leadership and equipment basics, ensuring your staff are prepared.
System Commissioning, Revalidation & Certification: C4 Fire & Security offers end-to-end commissioning and compliance validation for all installed fire protection and suppression systems. This includes hydrostatic pressure testing of gas cylinders, room integrity testing for clean-agent suppression zones, and full commissioning of detection and alarm networks to SANS specifications. We assist clients in achieving legal compliance under SANS 1475, SANS 14520, and OHSA 1993, while also fulfilling insurer requirements and SAQCC Fire certification protocols.
Our team handles:
Initial and post-installation commissioning of all new and upgraded systems
Full cylinder revalidation and hydrostatic testing (as required every 5 years)
Clean agent system room integrity testing and fan pressure door testing
Creation and submission of compliance reports, including SAQCC Fire signoffs
Revalidation of extinguishers, nozzles, alarms and control panels

VESDA Aspirating Smoke Detection in Freezers: Enhancing Fire Safety in Low-Temperature Environments
Freezers and cold storage facilities play a critical role in industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, and logistics. However, these low-temperature environments present unique challenges for fire detection due to low humidity, air stratification, and the risk of icing or condensation on conventional detectors. This is where VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) aspirating smoke detection systems provide a highly effective solution.
VESDA systems actively sample air from the protected environment through a network of durable piping, continuously drawing it into a central detection unit equipped with a laser-based smoke detector. This method allows for the detection of even minute smoke particles, long before traditional detectors would trigger an alarm. In freezer environments, where fires are rare but potentially catastrophic due to confined spaces and high asset value, early detection is crucial.
Unlike point detectors that may become unreliable or fail due to frost or condensation, VESDA systems are typically installed outside the cold zone, with sampling pipes run into the freezer. This design ensures that the sensitive electronics are protected from harsh conditions, while still providing fast and reliable smoke detection inside the freezer. Additional accessories, such as heated sampling points and water traps, are often used to further improve performance and prevent ice build-up.
By offering continuous, early-warning fire detection in some of the most challenging environments, VESDA aspirating systems have become the industry standard for fire safety in freezers and cold storage facilities. Their ability to maintain performance in sub-zero temperatures makes them an essential component of any robust fire protection strategy.
FirePro Aerosol Fire Suppression Units
FirePro Aerosol Units are advanced, compact fire suppression systems designed to deliver rapid and highly effective protection in a wide range of environments. Utilizing an environmentally friendly, solid-state aerosol technology, these units generate a fine extinguishing agent that quickly suppresses flames by interrupting the chemical reaction of a fire. Unlike traditional gas or sprinkler systems, FirePro Aerosol Units are clean, residue-free, and require minimal maintenance, making them ideal for sensitive equipment and confined spaces.
These units are versatile and suitable for commercial, industrial, and residential applications. Common uses include protecting server rooms, data centers, electrical panels, laboratories, kitchens, vehicles, and storage areas containing flammable materials. Their compact design allows for easy installation in areas where conventional fire suppression systems may be impractical, while still providing reliable protection against Class A, B, and C fires.
FirePro Aerosol Units are engineered for automatic activation in response to heat or smoke, ensuring immediate suppression and minimizing fire damage. Additionally, they can be integrated into existing fire detection and alarm systems for enhanced safety. Their proven efficiency, combined with environmentally conscious technology, positions FirePro Aerosol Units as a modern, effective solution for protecting life, assets, and critical infrastructure.
